Public Transport

Public Transport in Budapest

Budapest has a very extensive and developed public transport network run by the BKV transport company. Within the entire populated area of Budapest one can find a stop/station within 400 meters.

A wide variety of buses, trolleybuses, trams and underground trains usually operate from 04:30 to 23:00, and there are 30 night buses which numbers start with 9.

Please note that on some routes the red-numbered buses are express buses with limited stops. You may check the route and schedule at the stops/stations.

Ticket Controls are quite frequent and fines are high. Inspections are performed by BKV agents wearing red armbands.
