Buda castle

The foundations of the castle were laid down in the 13th century; and this was after the Mongol tribes had invaded Hungary. This castle was besieged almost 31 times later. King Bela had built the castle as a keep which was surrounded by thick walls. This was built on a site which was previously home to a small farming community. Around this keep is where the town of Buda began to grow. When King Lajos the Great took over the kingdom, he fortified the keep and the palace was built. When Sigismund of Luxemborg took over (1387 – 1437), he expanded the castle some more; and this is what created for one of the most spectacular and palaces that stands in Europe.
