Budapest: Local Spirit

Bambi Eszpresszó

Budapest Bambi

Bambi is one of the oldest watering holes in Budapest. It was very popular in socialistic times, and it still is. Today you meet in Bambi the sons and daughters of those who used to drink here in the 70s, and the old men playing domino. The place is also known for its nutritious breakfasts, which are authentic Hungarian sandwiches.

Margitsziget

Budapest. Margitsziget

Margitsziget (Margit Island) is located between Margit and Árpád bridges. The island was named after the daughter of King Béla IV who lived in an island’s convent in 13th century. This public park is very popular among locals and tourists. There are two spa hotels (Grand Hotel and Thermal Hotel) and two public baths on the island. The biggest swimming complex, Palatinus strand, has cold and warm water pools, water slides and an artificial wave pool.
You can also rent a bike on Margitsziget. When entering the park from Margit Bridge turn to your left to find the bike shed.

Tandem Cafe

Small bar near Central Market (Vásárcsarnok), where you can have a cup coffee while checking your e-mail. They don't offer food here, just drinks and snacks. I little bit dark and smoky, but this is the way Hungarians love it.
