No More Delusions! or Did You Know…?

When browsing the internet last week I came across some popular misconceptions about Budapest and Hungary which I'd like to disprove in this blog.

Budapest. Blog. Misconceptions

1. Budapest is the capital of Hungary and it is located in Hungary. Thus, there is no “Budapest, Romania” or “Budapest, Poland” or “Budapest, Whatever”.

However, I have to mention two much more rare Budapests – the one is of GA, USA and other one is of MO, USA. And one more thing about the Hungarian capital, it has nothing in common with Bucharest. So, similarly, there is no Bucharest, Hungary.

2. Hungarians are not Gypsies. There are Gypsies in Hungary, but there are also Hungarians, Jews, Germans, Slovaks, Croats, Ukrainians and other ethnic groups.

3. Hungarian currency is not Euro, and not Florin, and not Frank, and not any other word starting with F, except for Forint (Ft, HUF). Euros are expected by 2007.

4. Unicum is the Hungarian liquor made of a mixture of over 40 medicinal herbs and spices. It has nothing to do with Switzerland, despite the cross on its label looking like the one on Swiss flag.
