Open-air Bars in Budapest

Budapest is blessed with excellent climate and streets wide enough to accommodate open-air terraces. From May to October many restaurants, cafes and bars offer outdoor eating and drinking for their guests.

There is Duna Corso with posh restaurants and great view of the Danube and Buda, there is Liszt Ferenc square with many tables in the shadow of old plane trees, there is more budget Ráday street with over twenty terraces.

Budapest is also famous for its kerts (Hungarian for “garden”). Usually, these are located in the courtyards of abandoned buildings in the downtown and known for their laid-back atmosphere, arty crowd and reasonable prices.

A38: This former stone barge moored now on the Buda side of the Danube, has a top-deck terrace where you can drink, listen to the music, play table football and enjoy the view of Pest.

Fecske: Vast Terrace on top of the pool with chaise lounges, sand, and best lemonade in the city. Their summer specialty also includes grilled hake.

Kertem: Located in the City Park (Városliget), “My garden” is a huge outdoor bar with garden furniture, grilled meat and live concerts in the night. It is a peaceful and cool beer garden, a perfect getaway from noise and traffic of the city.

Szimpla Kert: One of the oldest “ruin pubs” in Budapest, popular hangout for students and art types. Concerts, movie nights, computer room, great collection of old furniture, reasonable prices and laid-back atmosphere.

Zöld Pardon: Summer club with all kinds of live concerts, from hip-hop to electronica. Popular mostly among younger crowd. Concerts starts at 20:00.

Café del Rio: Outdoor nightclub and restaurant with techno, R&B and house disco.

Kőleves Kert: Colourful outdoor spot in the city jungle set by nearby Kőleves Cafe known for its good food. Kids corner, murals on the walls, free Wi-Fi, bright and lovely.

Holdudvar: Spacious outdoor “Moon Garden” on the Margaret Island with food, drinks, DJs, gallery and dance floor. They also have concert and movie night.
