Skanzen is the open air ethnographic museum located near town of Szentendre, about 20 kilometers from Budapest downtown.
It features vast collection of folk architecture and interior decoration, representing the farming, social and family life of Hungarians from the 18th to the 20th century.
All objects here are original and authentic, collected from various regions.
It is divided into village-like areas with traditional peasant households, sacred and communal buildings.
The territory is enormous - 274 buildings on 60 hectares, and seeing the whole museum takes more than 8 hours.
Skanzen is a mixture of cultural entertainment and hiking, nature and history both for children and adults.
There is also a small farm with many animals of Hungarian breed...
including the famous hairy pig Mangalitza
Nonius horse
and Hungarian Grey Cattle.
In summer, the museum is open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 - 17:00, the admission is 1400 forints (about 5 Eur).
