Deak Ferenc

Ferenc Deák (1803 - 1876) was a Hungarian statesman, Minister of Justice of the first Hungarian Government and one of the most important persons in the Hungarian reformed politics of the 1840's. He practiced as a lawyer and a notary, he was among the creators of the 1839-40 laws of the Assembly and became honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Ferenc Deák was also the main organizer of the Austrian-Hungarian Compromise of 1867.

He is pictured on Hungarian 20000 forint banknote.

There is Deák Ferenc tér (square) in the downtown where the three lines of Budapest metro intersect, and at least seven streets of the city are named after him.

 Ferenc II Rakoczi

Ferenc II Rákóczi (1676–1735) was a Hungarian noble, Prince of Transylvania and ruler of Sáros county.

Between 1703 and 1711 Rákóczi headed the revolt against Habsburgs. One of the richest landlords of Hungary, he used his fortune for the freedom of his country, but his rebellion was oppressed and he fled to Turkey where he lived for 22 years until his death.

Today he is considered a national hero in Hungary, with streets and institutions named after him. In Budapest there are several streets and squares that bear his name, and the most popular street is the one starting at Astoria Hotel.

He is also pictured on Hungarian 500 forint banknote.

Jozsef Bem

József Bem (1794 - 1850), Polish general, national hero of Poland and Hungary, who fought for Poland outside Poland's borders. Being the man of great courage and excellent military skills he fought against Habsburg Monarchy.

In 1848 (when Austrian Revolution began) he was defending Transylvania, and in 1849, having become the general of the Székely troops, he managed to stop the enemies at the bridge of Piski.

József Bem was praised by the Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi.

Bem rakpart on the Buda side is the embankment loved by the locals and tourists for the beautiful views of the Danube and the city.
