There are some things in Budapest that annoy and exasperate both visitors and locals, and yet remain unchanged after years of whining and cursing (from both parts). So, we assume these are peculiarities of Budapest everyone should be aware of:
1. Dog faeces (aka poo or shit) all over the city. How can one admire the architectural values of the city with all these piles? You watch either the buildings (and then smell) or the sidewalks.
2. Graffiti tags all over the city. Really, these tags painted on every wall, door and lamppost have no artistic (historic, cultural, social, etc.) value. Does the city need so many of them?
3. Closing hours of restaurants. Apparently, many restaurant owners in Budapest believe that eating after 10 p.m. and on Sundays is unhealthy. Thank you guys that you care for our health!
4. Urine stench in the underpasses. Promoting the urine therapy, huh?
5. Spar supermarkets. You'll recognize these places easily by the lines of customers, shortage of supply and tortured (sometimes even dead) vegetables.
6. Lack of customer care in major corporations. When you see the logo or hear the name of a multinational company you usually expect quality and competence. But not so in Budapest. Here the staff learns the basics together with the customers. Guess who is paying for this training?
About 10 years ago we lodged in a Forum hotel on the Danube by the suspended bridge.
I can't find it on the net. Has it been re-named? somebody know?
