Budapest. Traffic Restrictions

Drivers are to pay entrance fee when entering the Castle District in Buda.

Third party insurance is compulsory in Hungary. The number plate and a sign representing country of origin are accepted as evidence of insurance for motorists arriving from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro).

Most of the stations are open from 06:00 to 22:00, although 24/7 service is now widely available.

Fines of up to 10,000 HUF may be paid on the spot, or you can pay them within 30 days by cheque.

Budapest. Parking

Parking fee is 120-300 HUF per hour. In Budapest you have to pay for parking, otherwise your car will be either clamped or removed. The phone number to call if you get clamped is there on the parking meter or in the notice, they put under your wiper.

Non-European licenses and old-style green European licenses should be accompanied by an International Driving Permit.
