Dining Out: Bars

Bars

Budapest Bars

Bars in Budapest are places that serve all kinds of drinks, spirits and beverages and sometimes light snacks, such as sandwiches, peanuts or chips.
Budapest bars are popular hangouts and low-budget way to socialize for students, art types and intellectuals. Because the majority of bars in Budapest have now free wi-fi, many people come here not to drink only, but to work too.
It is still allowed to smoke in Budapest bars, though more and more of them are expanding now their non-smoking areas.

Múzeum Cukrászda

Though it is a confectionery, most people come here not for sweets, but for beer and chat, and find it a very good thing that they are open round the clock round the year, yes, even on Christmas. It is located not far from the university, and you’ll always find here many students. This “bar-confectionery” also has summer terrace.

Instant

Budapest. Bars. Instant

Instant is a classic Budapest "ruin bar", except it is huge: it occupies the whole three-storey derelict building with its inner yard and all the apartments. Because of that Instant has the atmosphere of a squat house, and naturally young artists display their works in its many rooms with old furniture, different lighting and design. Here drinks are cheep, sandwiches are awful, and everyone seems to have a great time, especially with the concerts that start every night at 22:00.

VI. Nagymező utca 38

Open:
Mon-Sun 18:00-01:00

Ellátó

Budapest. Bars. Ellátó

It seems many people come to Ellátó to get drunk and discuss the big question of life with strangers while standing around the bar with pints in their hands. Yes, drinking and smoking is encouraged in this bar with simplistic design and artsy crowd. Be careful: bartenders sometimes miscalculate your change for their benefit.

Mumus

Budapest. Mumus Bar

The classic "ruin bar" of Budapest: it is located in the derelict building in Jewish quarter, it sports a creative design by young artists, it offers cheap drinks, crazy music and crazy crowd. And surely, there is the outdoor seating in the inner yard, called "kert" in Hungarian. Subculture thrives here.
