If you are planning to stay in Budapest longer than just a couple of days, you can buy a pre-paid SIM-card from the local mobile operator to save on your calls home. Public phones are operated by 10-, 20-, 50- and 100-forint coins or T-Com (telecommunications company) phone cards.
Most public phones operate with phone cards available at newsstands, tobacco shops, post offices, supermarkets and hotels.
