Budapest: Communications

This section deals with various kinds of communications – from public telephones to WI-FI hotspots in Budapest.
Find here where you can check your e-mail while in Budapest, how to place international and local calls, how to recharge your account with a mobile operator and which telephone cards are the best.

In this section you will find the list of internet, cable TV and telephony providers in Budapest, including providers’ area of operation, i.e. city districts, and links to their websites. Please note that sites of some providers are in Hungarian only.

If you are planning to stay in Budapest longer than just a couple of days, you can buy a pre-paid SIM-card from the local mobile operator to save on your calls home. There are three mobile operators in Hungary: Vodafone, Pannon GSM and T-Mobile. Here we provide only general practical information on pre-paid services. For further information and rates you can visit outlets or websites of the said mobile operators.

For international calls you may purchase a TeleCard (see details), which you can also use in other countries, NeoPhone INSTANT (see details) and EZ Phone pre-paid calling card (see details)

Public phones are operated by 10-, 20-, 50- and 100-forint coins or T-Com (telecommunications company) phone cards.
Most public phones operate with phone cards available at newsstands, tobacco shops, post offices, supermarkets and hotels.
