Castro Bisztro

Always crowded. Popular among locals and tourists. Serbian specialties, inexpensive drinks. No Cuban food and cigars despite the name. One of the places in Budapest you want to come back to because of its special, laid-back atmosphere.

do not be put off, castro is a brilliant bar

for anyone who has read the below comment, do not be put off..... castro is a wonderful bar in the centre of budapest with a constantly lively, warm and cosy atmosphere. it is very chilled out and laid back which is probably how people would be too relxed to notice their things go missing. it can happen to anyone who is too busy having a good time, chatting, checking internet, eating good food or drinking, don't let castro's name be marred. great place, truly. GO THERE! (NB it is busy any time of the day, so if you want to get a table be sure to cal and reserve one, which they will gladly do for you)

this is true whereever you

this is true whereever you go...never leave a bag on the back of your chair...its a sure way to get it stolen.

anyway, i go there at least once a week. unlike most places, the waiters/waitresses are laid back and actually nice (!!). its pet friendly, has quite a few vegetarian options, and great coffee. and wifi of course...

As both a tourist turned

As both a tourist turned local I can safely say you will get robbed ANYWHERE.
It is very bad practice to keep your bag where you can not see it. I even had my phone stolen on the metro when all four of my friends were around me. The thieves are talented. Just exercise some common sense and you should be fine, e.g. keep your bag on your lap or keep it between your feet, never leave it unattended etc.

In any case, I hope other than that your actual meal was nice.

Recommended!

Very good prices for quality food and drinks. Friendly laid back atmosphere, free wifi, and eveything nice!
As far as thievery go, this place is in no way any more dangerous than any other pubs or café of any other big cities. Just watch out for your things as common sense ask you to, or assume your own stupidity.

Casztro

Its a "must go" type of place. One of my favourites gulyas soups of Budapest for 900Huf! Services it's very friendly, but quite slow. Very smoky place but this is already part of the place's carachteristics. free wi-fy and good wines served by the glass.
Don't miss it!
