I am urban planner of the city of Amsterdam. With a group of collegues (15 persons)we are planning a trip to Boedapest in april 2012 to learn from urban projects in Boedapest. I am very interested in the brief urban history of Boedapest by Sosna. Is it possible that we can contact him for a guided tour or maybe he knows somebody else ?
My thanks to the Irish Cat folks! I spent an evening in here last year and have come almost every weekend since. Sure, I have seen the other pubs, but I love the mix of people from around the world, the dancing, the ample sitting space and plenty of bartenders to get drinks fast.
Last weekend was a long one, and after meeting a girl here, I left with a stag party group for a visit to Marilyn's (www.marilynbar.hu) across the street. We stayed for most of the evening and I returned alone and a bit tipsy to Irish Cat.
One of the owners gave me a pálinka and chatted with me for a while, then off to the dance floor I went. I was not in top form, but it did not seem to matter.
I must have danced with 10 women, all beautiful, including a waitress. At the end of the night, I had two phone numbers, lipstick on my collar, a girl on my arm and the bartender had called us a taxi.
The girl and I are dating now :) We still pop in at the Cat, and will likely keep on coming in. Also, I am called out by name, which is awesome, every time I visit. I cannot recommend it more highly. It beats the other spots I have been to on most every level one can think of.
Special note: They have a steak they make that they douse with whiskey then serve flaming. Amazing, delicious and of unusually high quality, especially for an inexpensive pub steak. I recommend it!
I love this club! I popped in here with some stag party guys I met at the Irish Cat Pub across the street (great place to meet women, their website is at www.irishcat.hu). I previously tried 4play but was put off by the drink hustle, which was constant there... and the girls were not very sweet, either.
But Marilyn... I have never been in a strip club so relaxed. The prices were a bit higher than a normal pub, but nowhere near what other places were demanding. The girls were friendly, more than friendly, and not on the make for off-work earnings. There were a few pros in the place not dancing, but they were not aggressive and were also quite polite (and pretty). The (also quite polite) bouncers said the escorts were not employees but were considered reputable and therefore they were tolerated.
Marilyn was my home for 6 hours, and I got away spending about $100 in forints. For that, I received a lap dance, a good buzz, had a girl ask another one if she could sit with me instead, then sit on my lap. Wew flirted all night. When I came back in for my gloves the next day (left behind) she gave me a little peck on each cheek and told me where she spends her time off the job so we could meet. We did!
They took good care of us. I ran a tab and did not get burned. Whatever the obvious Hungarian guy posting about this place being a ripoff wants to say, this was a good time and a safe place near the hotels downtown. I recommend it highly.

En España se tira todo debido a la especulación. Que pena. ¿que sería de Budapest sin sus edificios? ¿sin la Avenoida Andrassy? ¿sin Joseff Körut? Sin tantos y tantos otros lugares? ¿Y los distritos? El V, VI, VII, VIII, I, II, XIX etc?
Como digo ya cuento los dias para volver. Que hermosa eres Budapest.
Definitely the best Mexican restaurant in Budapest. By the way, they recently opened up another one near Moskva Ter on Buda side... Maybe worth to add.
WOW!!!!!! NEVER go here whatever you do. The service is SO RUDE- and BAD. They charge 12$ to 24$ for a small or large load so you think its a good deal - BEWARE. we came in with 2 loads worth and they took our clothes, said they would do them, and told us to come back in 3 hours. They asked us to pay upfront _ BIG TIP OFF_ DONT DO IT!!! We came back and found all our clothes that were white -BLUE. not joking, DARK BLUE!!! there is NO EXCUSE for it!!! everyone knows to wash mixed clothing in COLD WATER!!! they had the temperature setting at 60 CELCIUS!!!! they are a 'proffessional' laundry place and i could see they had linens and sheets from hotels all sparkling white folded up in the background ---- but our stuff was horrible, BLUE, and they ignored us when we told them this is BLUE and it was white. They don't speak a lick of english - or they pretend not to!!cus they took our money and told us to come back just fine - and they just shrugged their shoulders and said no, no , no. when we told them it came out blue. INSULTING. An apology would have sufficed, some refund too, but the complete disrespect and the rudness and denial was toooo Much. Then they shoved our clothes out of the way so they could get another poor clients clothes in the machine. DONT GO HERE. it might be cheap but they are going to mess your clothing up, seemingly on purpose- because they know how to keep things white as i saw, they just didn't care to do ours right at all!!! there's no excuse for it. this place sucks and i hope nobody goes there again. RUINED OUR TRIP!!!!
On July 16 I paid to have photos downloaded from my cannon to a disc and they gave me the wrong disc back. Do you still have my photos of Prague and Budapest?
This was not good for me as the lady at this shop was rude and told me she was unable to do the laundry as she was very busy. She did not speak English and said the shop was closed on Saturday even though it was open till 2:00 pm!!!!! The timimgs were written on the door• found as self service laundry later at Dohany utca 37 an Internet cafe . Owner or caretaker very helpful . Nice clean laundry facility.
I,ve got a 15 Mb ADSL internet conection but is notavailable 90% of the time. I never ever had a working connection during evening hours when I need it the most. Only a few hous in the morning I can use it sometimes. When you call the seldm call back and if they do it is almost a day later than agreed.
I do hope it will mproe but so far I am not that lucky. I am considering chnging to UPC
If this was such a terrible place, there wouldn't be thousands of people hanging around there every summer night. I understand that you met some ill-mannered tough guys (which is sometimes the case in Hungary), but it is far from making Gödör the worst place ever.
Your negative description of the Müvész Kávéház is really not applicable. On each of the many occasions that I have visited this establishment, the patisserie has been excellent and the coffee every bit as delicious as the Kaffeehäuser of Vienna or Zürich. You forgot to mention that Müvész Kávéház is closed on Saturdays. As for better days, they really were better, until Starbuck's and Costa's renamed their dishwater.
I will be in Budapest for only 1 week and would like to have cell phone access. Should I take my iPhone with me from the U.S.? Or are there better alternatives in Budapest? I'm just trying to find the lowest cost cell phone usage and internet usage. Thanks for any help
I'm not a strip bar goer but I can definitely tell that this is a very good place with nice girls (some of them are even amazing), reasonable prices and very friendly and helpful staff. What else do you need?! They do not cheat or try to rip you off - you just pay whatever is written or agreed in prior. Some girls are also available to have sex (you need to discuss price with the girl). So, to conclude, Marilyn Bar - Highly Recommended!
This place is 100% correct. You will be approached by a lady, but you can refuse it. If you offer a ladies dring, you can of course chat with her and flirt a little bit; of course she will push to go to private, but this is the game.

Vous voulez du vin rouge, pas de problème il n'y en a qu'un (le plus cher de la carte comme par hasard).
Vous apporte avec un sourire des suppléments payants sans rien dire... Surprise à l'addition.
Les plats 'Hongrois' sont très simple pas vraiment différents...
Nous avons également remarqué qu'il y avait des soucis lors de l'addition à d'autres tables !

I agree with your comments, equally the attitude of your society which is so pathetic that sees nothing wrong in what those women doing. Not everone can be bought, but most men who is not dating with a fashion model, would pay if there is a nice looking body is available for sale. You condemn the drug addict but not the drug producing plant.
Well, one way, though not the easiest one, is to learn Hungarian.
But try calling UPC with this question, they actually have a good support with proper English.
How can we access your daily TV programme shedule. We have bought numerous TV Guides but they are only in Hungarian and we cannot understand them and what is coming up on UPC television channels.
In they web site sayd that they are closed for renovation, enybody knows when it will be open again? Planed to visit Budapest 1.3-4.3.12
The new steam room has been in operation for about 9 months now. Twice as big as before. Yummm.

Everything is working again. The steam room has been expanded and renovated.

We visited this today - an excellent guided tour of both the synagogue and the museum.
