We heard and read not once that driving in Budapest is "awful", "of Latino type", "not easy" and even "not for fainthearted". Well, if you compare it to a small German village, then it is of course awful, but if you remember Cairo… As a driver, passenger and pedestrian, I feel comfortable. The only annoyance is the vehicles of police and alike services, which usually turn on all the sirens the car is equipped with when hurrying on business (whatever their business is).

When driving a car, the drivers are to have the driving license, liability insurance and ID. Don't forget to take all your papers and belongings when leaving the car - the thefts are not uncommon in Budapest.

Outside city limits headlights must be on night and day. The use of horn is not allowed in Budapest.

The driver's blood alcohol level should be 0.00. Speed limits are as follows: 50 km/h (31 mph) in built-up areas, 80 km/h (50 mph) outside built-up areas, 100 km/h (62 mph) on motorways, and 120 km/h (75 mph) on divided highways.
